Amazon Studios, in collaboration with MGM, has confirmed the first main actor for the cast of “Road House 2”, which will be part of the upcoming sequel to the 2024 action remake. This announcement was made approximately two months after it was disclosed that Guy Ritchie, renowned director of “The Gentlemen”, had agreed to direct the project.
Who is joining the Road House 2 cast?
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Dave Bautista, famously known for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy, has been selected to join the cast alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House 2! In this upcoming sequel, Bautista will reportedly portray a character with a similar background to Gyllenhaal’s, that of a former fighter. At present, it remains undecided whether his role will be that of the new antagonist or not, as the original film featured UFC champion Conor McGregor in that position. The ongoing casting process for the fresh characters is yet to be completed.
In the upcoming project, Ritchie will take on directing duties, with screenplay penned by Will Beall, who worked on Bad Boys: Ride or Die. This collaboration marks the return of Ritchie and Gyllenhaal, having previously joined forces in the critically acclaimed 2023 action drama film The Covenant. Interestingly, Ritchie steps into the shoes of Doug Liman, the original installment’s director, whose comeback seemed unlikely due to his public criticisms of Amazon and MGM Studios over their decision to distribute the movie via streaming rather than a traditional wide theatrical release.
In simple terms, the remake of Road House was helmed by director Liman, with a script penned by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. This reboot garnered a Tomatometer score of 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, following the reviews from 205 critics. The original film featured UFC star Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior known for her role in The Suicide Squad, Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Gbemisola Ikumelo (The Last Tree), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Hannah Love Lanier (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Travis Van Winkle (Accepted), B.K. Cannon (Switched at Birth), Arturo Castro (Broad City), Dominique Columbus (Ray Donovan), Beau Knapp (Southpaw), and Bob Menery in its cast.
