This is like finding a forgotten artifact from an ancient civilization hidden within a modern-day movie – it’s mind-blowing!
Fans have spotted an Ellen Ripley Easter egg in Alien: Romulus.
The film titled “Alien: Romulus” was shown in American cinemas on August 16, 2024. This production is helmed by Fede Álvarez, and it takes place during the timeframe between the original “Alien” (directed by Ridley Scott) in 1979 and its sequel “Aliens” (directed by James Cameron) in 1986.
In the timeline of Alien: Romulus, it’d be me, a space-faring gamer, drifting aimlessly in a lifepod, deep in cryosleep, following the destruction of the Nostromo – the ship where I lost my comrades and battled that terrifying alien at the end of Alien.
On the ReelBlend Podcast, Álvarez mentioned that it might not be entirely out of the question for Ripley to make an appearance or have some influence in Alien: Romulus.
Alvarez commented, “For these past years, it remains unclear what transpired as she gradually distanced herself. I’m sorry, but I can’t provide further details. Due to legal constraints, I can’t say more. However, let me assure you, it’s not out of the question.”

It’s been pointed out by viewers that Ripley’s escape pod seems to pop up briefly towards the closing moments of Alien: Romulus.
A post from RidgeTop on Alien vs. Predator Galaxy reads, “I remembered the theatrical trailer for Alien: Romulus, where I spotted a Starcub-class escape shuttle drifting away from the Renaissance station as it smashes into the planetary ring. Initially I thought this was an escape shuttle used by our main characters to leave the doomed station, I even thought I had confirmed this with someone, but after watching Fede’s interview, I knew this was indeed THE Narcissus containing the still asleep Ellen Ripley.
During my third watch (interestingly enough), I was on high alert for that “aha!” moment Fede mentioned, and this time, I found it. In the scene where Kay is trapped in a room with the Xenomorph, while Tyler and Rain plead with Andy to open the door, if you glance down the corridor, you’ll notice the Narcissus shuttle standing vertically docked. It seems plausible that Ripley might have remained in cryostasis aboard this shuttle, which may have automatically ejected as the station exploded. There could be additional Easter eggs in the film suggesting Ripley’s presence in the background, so I’ll need to stay vigilant during future viewings.
Alien: Romulus is now playing in United States theaters.
