RIP Connect: Ubisoft to begin launching games on Steam again!

As someone who has spent countless hours navigating through the labyrinth that is Ubisoft Connect, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the recent announcement! The idea of having Ubisoft games launch day one on Steam again feels like a long-awaited breath of fresh air.

Of course, you’ve always been able to buy older Ubisoft games on Steam, but currently they like to release their new games on Ubisoft Connect first. Then, after a period of many months, they bring them over to the platform everyone uses. If you’ve never used Ubisoft Connect, you might not see why this is an issue, but rest assured it’s a terrible launcher.

While this adjustment alone might not reverse the downward trend for a company that has seen its stock price sink to a decade-long low, it undeniably marks a promising step forward in the right direction.

Ubisoft games to launch day one on Steam

According to a recent internal communication from Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, there are plans for a company-wide restructuring, which includes making games available on Steam on their release date once more.

Additionally, as a result of listening to player feedback on other topics, our new releases, starting with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will again be available on Steam on launch day

Hooray!

Unfortunately, the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been postponed until February 14, 2025. However, starting from that date, all future Ubisoft games will be made available on both Steam and Connect. This is fantastic news, and it’s reassuring to see that Ubisoft seems to be heeding the voices of their fans once more.

I must admit, I’m thrilled to bid farewell to Ubisoft Connect. As for the future of Ubisoft, I truly hope they can make a comeback and regain their former glory.
