Rings of Power Season 2 Viewership Revealed, Season 3 Update Given

As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard fan of Middle Earth, I can confidently say that the news of Season 3 for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is music to my ears! With over 100 million viewers already hooked, it’s clear that Amazon has struck gold with this epic fantasy series.

Amazon’s top executive, Jennifer Salke, shared some key details about “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” such as the ratings for Season 2 and the current plans for Season 3.

During a chat with Variety, Salke talked about the response to Season 2, pointing out that numerous viewers have tuned in to the fresh episodes ever since the series resumed airing in August 2024.

Salke remarked about the viewership: “Given what’s been said, more than 70 million people have participated since Season 2 began, and this number continues to grow. In terms of a long-term perspective, which is how they evaluate such assets in our company, this is a long-term commitment to the franchise. In fact, there are over 100 million viewers tuning in and engaging with the show, which makes me feel very optimistic, and I believe everyone else does as well.

In Season 1, we attracted roughly 150 million viewers, so Salke is optimistic that Season 2 might eventually reach a similar number of viewers.

Will There Be a Rings of Power Season 3?

Originally, Amazon proposed a 50-hour span for The Rings of Power, and according to Salke, this initial plan has remained unaltered. This suggests that a third season may already be in the works.

Salke responded when asked about altering the 50-hour project: “I’m not convinced,” he said. “[The] commitment isn’t what’s motivating our work. We’ll carry on producing the show as long as it remains popular worldwide and viewers keep watching it. After all, it’s a business, and we require a significant audience to ensure its continuation. Fortunately, we have a large one, so there’s no question about whether or not the show will go on.

It emerged last week that there were strong indications the Prime Video series might be re-aired for a third season, with the formal announcement anticipated around the end of this month. Interestingly, it seems that the showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay have already started drafting episodes for the third season, even prior to any official confirmation.

The Rings of Power Season 2 concluded on October 3. All episodes are now available to stream on Prime Video.
