This week, pop star Rihanna appeared in public less frequently than usual at a Los Angeles courthouse to stand by her partner, A$AP Rocky. He is currently dealing with two severe accusations related to assault using a semi-automatic weapon. The allegation claims that he fired at his previous friend, A$AP Relli, during a heated altercation in November 2021. On January 29, Rihanna was present at the trial, seated beside Rocky’s mother, Renee Black, and his sister, Erika B. Mayers, at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Rihanna has now publicly supported A$AP Rocky for the first time since the court case started, with her appearance happening only a few hours after they had a night out in Los Angeles. A$AP Rocky declined a plea bargain and instead chose to have a jury trial. If found guilty, he could potentially spend 24 years in prison. His legal team claims that the object in question was just a prop used for self-defense, and that he is legally allowed to carry a firearm in California.

In contrast to the prosecution’s account, the defense has put forth a different perspective. According to Deputy District Attorney Paul B. Przelomiec, the case at hand is clear-cut and he encouraged jurors to apply practical judgment when examining the evidence. Relli, on the other hand, has initiated a civil lawsuit against Rocky, accusing him of assault, battery, and emotional distress. The incident led to Rocky’s arrest in April 2022, following his return from a trip with Rihanna in Barbados. He was granted bail set at $550,000 for his release.
