As a long-time fan of Paul Mescal’s captivating performances and the enigmatic allure of the Beatles, I am absolutely thrilled to see these two worlds collide! Mescal has proven his versatility time and again, from his riveting portrayal of Connell in Normal People to his triumph as a gladiator. Now, he’s set to bring his charisma and talent to the silver screen as a member of one of the most iconic bands in history!
Following his victory in the arena, Paul Mescal is poised to portray a member of The Beatles, as stated by Ridley Scott.
On Tuesday evening, Scott and filmmaker Christopher Nolan held a discussion at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles following a private showing of Gladiator II. During their talk, Nolan brought up Scott’s upcoming movie, The Dog Stars, which could potentially see the return of the Gladiator director and actor Mescal to work together again. Initially, Scott affirmed Mescal’s participation in The Dog Stars; however, he soon corrected his statement, suggesting that Mescal might need to withdraw from the project due to commitments with Sam Mendes’ Beatles films.
Scott mentioned that it’s possible,” Scott said to Nolan (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter), when asked about Mescal joining The Dog Stars. “However, Paul is currently busy with a project on The Beatles, so he might not be available.
Who will Paul Mescal play in Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies?
It’s been widely speculated that Mescal might take on the role of Paul McCartney. Some other actors who have been rumored for the other roles include Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. More recently, Ringo Starr announced that Barry Keoghan is learning to play drums to portray him in the upcoming biopics.
By February 2024, it was disclosed that Mendes and Sony Pictures Entertainment were intending to produce four motion pictures based on The Beatles. Each film will delve into a unique perspective of a different band member. It’s been planned that Mendes will direct all four films, though as of now, no screenwriters have been formally confirmed for the projects.
For the first time, the Beatles and Apple Corps Limited have given complete control over their biography and musical catalog to others. Mendes will collaborate with Pippa Harris from Neal Street Productions and Julie Pastor in producing this project. Jeff Jones will serve as executive producer on behalf of Apple Corps Ltd.
Filming is expected to begin in 2025 in the UK. All four movies are projected to release in 2027.
