As a die-hard fan of the Bee Gees since their days of “Stayin’ Alive” and beyond, I find myself eagerly anticipating Ridley Scott‘s take on their captivating story. Having been a fan for decades, I can only imagine what it must have felt like for him to meet Barry Gibb after 50 years! The thought of seeing the legendary director and the living Bee Gees member in the same room brings a warm feeling to my heart.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excitedly sharing that director Ridley Scott has given us a peek into the progress of his anticipated project – the Bee Gees movie. He’s shared his eagerness to dive back into this long-awaited production and hinted at a potential return timeline.
What did Ridley Scott say about The Bee Gees movie?
During a chat with Deadline, Scott hinted at a minor setback in the film project, preferring not to elaborate on the issue. Yet, he expressed his desire to revisit it shortly and even confirmed a meeting with Barry Gibb.
Scott mentioned that there was an issue in the production of The Bee Gees movie, which we can move past. He’s optimistic about resuming work on it by the end of next year. Recently, he had a meeting with Barry Gibb, whom he hadn’t seen for fifty years. It felt like traveling through time, strange but genuinely delightful,” said Scott.
At present, the screenplay for the upcoming Bee Gees movie, currently unnamed, is being penned by John Logan, who worked on Gladiator. If he confirms his role as director and producer for the project, he will collaborate with Scott again. The production of this film will be handled by Michael Pruss, Graham King, Elisabeth Murdoch, Stacey Snider, and Jane Featherstone. Barry Gibb, a surviving member of the Bee Gees, is set to serve as an executive producer. This project originates from GK Films, Amblin, and Sister, with the latter two sharing the financing responsibilities.
Before Scott came on board, the biopic had experienced three changes of director since its initial announcement in 2019. Kenneth Branagh, John Carney, and Lorene Scafaria were previously associated with the project at various stages of its progression. Interestingly, Scott was initially set to direct the Bee Gees members Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb in a medieval film titled Castle Accident during the 1970s. Unfortunately, that project didn’t materialize.
The Bee Gees consisted of siblings Maurice, Barry, and Robin Gibb. They gained prominence in the 1960s and 70s with their disco anthems like “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep is Your Love,” “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” among others. This iconic band, which garnered five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, has sold more than 220 million records worldwide. Tragically, Maurice Gibb passed away in 2003 at the age of 53 due to complications from a twisted intestine. Sadly, his twin brother Robin followed suit nine years later, passing away at the age of 62 as a result of liver and kidney failure.
