Ricky Starks, the previous holder of the FTW Championship, has recently spoken out about his current contractual situation with AEW, sparking rumors of a potential shift to WWE. Starks was last seen on AEW television during the March 30 episode of AEW Dynamite.

In a tag team championship tournament bout, Starks teamed up with Big Bill to face Top Flight, but despite their valiant attempt, they were defeated by Top Flight. Since that defeat, Starks has been absent from AEW broadcasts, whereas his former partner, Big Bill, remains an active member of the roster. Notably, Big Bill has since joined Chris Jericho’s group, The Inner Circle (formerly known as The Learning Tree), and frequently appears on AEW TV, unlike Starks.

Speculation about Starks leaving AEW has arisen due to his strong connection with WWE Undisputed Champion, Cody Rhodes. His past appearance backstage during the Royal Rumble, cheering on Rhodes for his grand comeback, fuels this speculation.

As Starks’ absence stretched beyond eight months, fans started to wonder if his AEW contract had ended. However, Starks himself clarified the situation, affirming that he is still under Tony Khan’s promotion and quelling the rumors surrounding his status.

Ricky Starks confirms he’s still signed with AEW

More recently, Ricky Starks showed up at Glory Pro Wrestling. In the course of this appearance, Starks stepped forward and issued a challenge to Kody Lane, who holds the A1 Zero Gravity Championship. The title match between these two has been scheduled for the WrestlePocalypse event on November 24th.

This initiated buzz among fans regarding Starks’ employment agreement with AEW. In a chat with Claibs Online, Starks clarified that he is indeed bound by an AEW contract, thus quelling doubts about any changes in his professional association with the organization.
