Audience members are taken aback as Karen Huger, a popular figure on The Real Housewives of Potomac (RHOP), receives a two-year prison term due to a DUI incident that took place in March 2024, following an accident involving her Maserati and numerous street signs in Potomac, Maryland. A judge has issued the sentence, with one year of the penalty suspended.

Why was Karen Huger sentenced?

Famous television figure Karen Huger will likely spend time at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, following the judge’s ruling in her DUI case.

As per a report from USA Today, Huger made an appearance in the Maryland Circuit Court this week. Judge Terrence J. McGann declared that the Real Housewives of Potomac star will serve a full year in prison, with another year suspended. This verdict was announced on Wednesday, February 26th.

Additionally, Huger was given a fine of $2,900 and ordered to be under supervised probation for five years. Furthermore, she is prohibited from driving for a year after completing her prison sentence, and if she fails to abide by the conditions, she will serve out the remainder of her suspended sentence in jail.

In March 2024, Karen Huger collided with several street sign posts in her hometown while driving her Maserati, under the influence of alcohol. Footage from police body cameras showed Huger to be noticeably drunk and slurring her words. A Montgomery County jury found her guilty of both DUI (driving under the influence) and negligent driving in December.

After Wednesday’s verdict pronouncement, ABC News spoke to Karen Huger’s lawyer, David Martella, who shared that Karen herself expressed feeling at peace. She’s relieved that this part of the legal process is now complete. Over the past few months, Karen has dedicated much effort towards her recovery, and this work has left her in the best health she’s been in for years.
