Hideki Kamiya, the director behind Resident Evil 2, Bayonetta, and the regrettably canceled Scalebound, recently shared his thoughts on not wanting to create another installment within Capcom’s horror franchise.
Although the talented game director is no longer interested in directing another Resident Evil game, they mentioned that there are several other titles they’d be keen to revisit, with Dino Crisis being one of them.
Kamiya says no to Resident Evil, yes to dinosaurs
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been immersed in the development of an unnamed Okami sequel! Following my departure from Capcom in the early 2000s, it’s a joy to find myself collaborating with them once more. Intrigued by this renewed partnership, I was asked about which other franchises I’d be excited to work on.
In MinnMax’s recent video titled “69 Questions for Okami director Hideki Kamiya,” the esteemed game creator was queried about potentially returning to the Resident Evil series. Emulating his signature style, he responded bluntly with a brief and clear: “no.
Although the director has no intention of revisiting Resident Evil, given that he deemed the original RE2 as his most challenging endeavor to date, he expresses interest in participating in Dino Crisis. Despite having no previous experience with the series, Kamiya openly states his desire to take a crack at it.
Instead, it appears that the director has expressed a strong preference for revisiting the captivating Viewtiful Joe platformer franchise, following his work on the original games and their Nintendo DS spin-off. His ambition is to provide the series with a fitting conclusion.
Kamiya made it clear that he’s thought it through,” he said. “Whether or not we’ll see it come to fruition is still uncertain.
The Resident Evil series from Capcom continues to capture the hearts of many, with its ninth primary installment being developed at present. For quite some time, enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting a new Dino Crisis game, but as yet, Capcom hasn’t even produced updated versions for the originals. Fortunately, we can look forward to Exoprimal in the meantime.
