Resident Evil 2 remake launches in December for iPhone, iPad and Mac – and you can try it out for free

As a gamer who’s been through the terrifying trials of Raccoon City back in 1998 when the original Resident Evil 2 was released, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming release on iPhone, iPad, and Mac! The thought of battling grotesque zombies on-the-go is almost too much to bear.

To date, the Resident Evil 2 remake has been released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC through Steam, and Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming. However, come December, it will also be accessible on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

This 1998 horror classic centers around two main characters: college student Claire Redfield and police officer Leon S. Kennedy. They must navigate through a grim and perilous game environment, battling hordes of enemies infected by the mutated G-virus, an evolution of the T-virus from the initial game in the series.

Now, gamers can delve into the revamped version of Resident Evil 2 directly on their iPhone, iPad or Mac. With the advantage of universal purchase and cross-progression, they can simultaneously guide Leon and Claire through Raccoon City across all devices. This is achieved by moving save data between devices, ensuring a seamless gaming experience.

Updates, features and release date

The remake includes enhanced controls and a new auto fire feature, so players have the option to automatically fire weapons after aiming at enemies.

Those uncertain if they’ll enjoy this new take on the game can instead give it a test run with a complimentary trial.

The App Store release, slated for December 10, will support all iPhone 16 variants, including the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, along with every iPad and Mac equipped with an M1 chip or newer versions.

Are you a fan of the Resident Evil franchise? Will you give this version a try?
