Report: Saw XI May Be Canceled, Horror Franchise’s Future Seems To Be In Jeopardy

The future suddenly isn’t looking too bright for Saw XI.

The eleventh movie in the Saw franchise was originally supposed to be released on September 27, 2024, though it was pushed back to September 2025 in April 2024. Saw X director Kevin Greutert has been announced as the movie’s director.

Although Lionsgate has yet to make any official statement regarding the issue, a recent article by Bloody Disgusting indicates that the production of Saw XI might have been cancelled, potentially putting the future of the series at risk.

What is happening with Saw XI?

According to an anonymous source speaking to Bloody Disgusting, one whom the outlet has “verified as being close to the production of its newest sequel,” Saw XI is “totally dead.”

“It’s 100% over,” the source said. “Almost a year now.”

According to Bloody Disgusting’s source, “everything went sideways in January 2024” when the producers started fighting with one another. One producer tried to “plow forward” past the disagreements, while another “put up roadblocks.”

At present, it’s not apparent what caused the dispute. Apparently, Lionsgate lacked someone capable of resolving the conflict between the producers.

This isn’t the first time that rumors of Saw XI being in trouble have popped up online. Scream Magazine posted last year that, according to a reliable source, the movie won’t likely be able to make its September 2025 release date due to “significant problems behind the scenes.”

If “Saw XI” gets canceled, the future of the Saw franchise could take a different direction as it might be sold to another company and restarted from scratch. This means that the current series could potentially come to an end, but if another entity takes over, they would start a new chapter in the Saw saga.

“Greed and ego won,” Bloody Disgusting’s source concluded.

At present, there is no official statement from Lionsgate about any changes to the release date of Saw XI, which currently stands as September 26, 2025.
