Renuka Swamy case: Darshan Thoogudeepa's application seeking home-cooked food rejected by prison authorities

As a die-hard fan of Darshan Thoogudeepa, it breaks my heart to see him going through such hard times. I’ve followed his career since his debut and watched him transform from a promising actor to a superstar. It seems like fate has taken an unexpected turn for him now.

In a recent development, Darshan Thoogudeepa, who stands accused in the Renuka Swamy murder case, has been denied homemade meals and other amenities once more within prison. This decision was made by the Director General of Police (Prisons) and communicated to the Karnataka High Court.

According to an article in Deccan Herald, it was reported by State Public Prosecutor BA Belliayappa that a request made by Darshan was turned down on August 14, 2024, and this decision was communicated to the person who had filed the petition.

In response, Prabhuling Navadgi, the senior advocate representing the actor, explained that the petitioner had not yet received a copy of the decision. He requested more time to study the order. In light of this, Justice M Nagaprasanna postponed the hearing until September 5, 2024, giving the petitioner additional time to review the ruling.

Additionally, Malini Krishnamurthy, Director of the Karnataka State Prisons and Correctional Services, elaborated that Darshan’s appeal was turned down as he stands accused of murder.

In my account, I’d like to bring up a point: My previous request had been denied on July 26th. After this decision, I took the matter to the High Court, contesting the verdict of the lower court. My plea was for the privilege of having homemade meals and comfortable bedding within the prison premises.

Previously, Darshan’s judicial detention was further prolonged until August 28, instead of concluding on August 12 as initially planned. According to an article in India Today, all 17 defendants involved in the murder case appeared before the magistrate via video link from prisons in Bengaluru and Tumakuru. The authorities proposed that ongoing investigations and substantial evidence implicate all suspects in the crime, leading to the extension of their judicial detention.

Back in the spotlight, I found myself deeply engrossed in the chilling tale of the Renuka Swamy murder case. It was on June 11 that the arrests of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his rumored partner, Pavithra Gowda, were made, linking them to this heinous crime.

33-year-old pharmacist Renuka, a Darshan fan, reportedly insulted Gowda and claimed that she was responsible for Darshan’s divorce. This led Pavithra to plot revenge on him, with Darshan Thoogudeepa supposedly encouraging the act, which eventually resulted in his murder.

According to reports, it is claimed that he illegally seized Renuka Swamy and ended his life using several weapons within his garage. Subsequently, the deceased’s body was discovered discarded in a drainage system for rainwater.
