The film company, Samuel Goldwyn Films, debuted the initial preview for the remake of the cherished comic figure, Red Sonja in the fantasy genre. Matilda Lutz portrays Red Sonja, the sword-and-sorcery heroine who needs to rally her people against an imminent danger.
Red Sonja is taken captive, bound, and forced to fight for her life. She embarks on a violent journey through the cruel empire of a tyrant, uniting a group of outcasts to regain her freedom and defeat Dragan and his ruthless partner, Dark Annisia.

In the thrilling preview, we see Red Sonja demonstrating her exceptional fighting abilities using her sword, bare knuckles, and archery skills. Trapped in slavery, Red Sonja struggles for freedom and rallies a revolution to liberate her people from oppressive rule.

In a nutshell, Red Sonja is under the guidance of director M.J. Bassett, who is recognized primarily for his work on Deathwatch and Silent Hill: Revelation. The script for this epic was written by Tasha Huo, the mastermind behind Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’s television series.
For approximately twenty years, the creation of Red Sonja seemed perpetually stuck, with no progress. However, within the past ten years, both Bryan Singer and Joey Soloway have been associated with the project.
Red Sonja hails from the comic book series created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith, where she frequently appeared alongside Conan the Barbarian.
1985 saw Brigitte Nielsen take the lead as Red Sonja in the movie titled after her character. Nielsen shared the screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who portrayed Lord Kalidor. Unfortunately, the film didn’t fare well both critically and financially, effectively ruling out any immediate follow-up production.
On August 15, 2025, the fantasy film “Red Sonja” will be released in cinemas. After that, it will become available digitally on August 29, 2025.
