Red One predicted to open between $30-35 million at domestic box office

Red One is tracking to make $30 million to $35 million in North America in its opening weekend.

Based on estimates from The Hollywood Reporter, the earnings fall short compared to Black Adam’s domestic box office opening weekend haul of $67 million.

Originally scheduled for a premiere on Prime Video on December 20, 2023, produced by Amazon MGM Studios’ film titled Red One, has been postponed. The cause appears to be the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Subsequently, it was announced that the movie would have a global cinema debut instead. In the United States, Amazon MGM will oversee distribution, while Warner Bros. Pictures will take care of international distribution duties.

In contrast to traditional studios, Amazon sees less dependence on box office success due to its subscription-based structure. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they also harbor aspirations for the Red One franchise, planning to create a series of Christmas films from this flagship project.

The film “Red One” narrates the tale of Callum Drift, or Johnson as he’s known, who is the chief of Santa Claus’s ELF (short for Enforcement, Logistics, and Fortification) security unit. He joins forces with cyber expert and bounty hunter Jack O’Malley, played by Evans, in an attempt to locate a missing Santa Claus. Jake Kasdan is the director of this movie, which was scripted by Chris Morgan.

Significantly, the film titled Red One received a 38% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes following 50 reviews. Additionally, it earned a score of 36 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on the opinions of 13 reviewers. This suggests a predominantly negative reception towards the movie.
