Marvel enthusiasts are excited to discover the backstory of President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who became Red Hulk, in the upcoming film “Captain America 4: Brave New World”. While the comics don’t provide much detail about his dramatic change, the latest movie suggests otherwise. Additionally, fans are keen to find out where The Leader is now since he was last seen in “The Incredible Hulk”.
Eagerly diving right in, I can’t wait to unravel the mystery behind where our beloved leader has been hiding, and to explore the fascinating backstory of none other than the mighty Red Hulk!
How did Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross become the Red Hulk in Captain America 4?
Thunderbolt Ross (played by Harrison Ford), finds out that he’ll be facing death sooner rather than later. Desperate for a way to extend his life and even become the U.S. President, he seeks help from Samuel Sterns, also known as Leader (Tim Blake Nelson). In return for this assistance, Ross offers Sterns freedom from prison. Consequently, Sterns gives him some mysterious tablets.
As a gamer, when Ross broke his word and left that scientist behind bars, it eventually came out that Sterns’ schemes were far greater than they seemed. At first, I thought he was just saving Ross’ life by giving him those life-extending pills. But then, I realized that Sterns was also dosing Ross with gamma radiation, which ultimately transformed him into Red Hulk.
Using his intelligence from prison, Sterns orchestrates Isiah Bradley’s death to enrage Ross, who transforms into the Red Hulk as a result. However, Sterns’ plan is foiled when Sam Wilson interferes. Interestingly, during a White House Q&A session, Ross unleashes his red, massive energy in full view of everyone present.
Where has the Leader been since The Incredible Hulk in MCU?
Besides delving into the backstory of the Red Hulk, Captain America 4 sheds light on the fact that Samuel Sterns has been imprisoned since the occurrences in The Incredible Hulk.
Thaddeus Ross consistently places all the responsibility for the Abomination’s rampage in The Incredible Hulk on Samuel Sterns. Meanwhile, as Sterns’ alter ego, the Leader, causes immense destruction worldwide, it also aids in his growth of extraordinary intellectual capabilities. Furthermore, Ross continues to subject Sterns to increased levels of gamma radiation, which boosts his intelligence but leaves him disfigured.
In spite of the constraints placed upon him, Samuel Sterns acquires a talent to foresee outcomes and offers assistance to the military in various ways. However, he never receives the freedom that was promised to him by Ross. Instead, he manages to make the future president experience the consequences of his own actions in Captain America: Brave New World. In secret, Sterns transforms this individual into Red Hulk and later reveals their actions publicly following a scandal at the White House. This revelation leads to both Sterns and Ross being incarcerated for their wrongdoings.
