As a dedicated fan of gritty Scottish dramas, I can confidently say that the new Rebus series, starring Richard Rankin, is a must-watch. Having binge-watched countless crime shows, I can attest to the fact that Rankin brings an authenticity and edge to his portrayal of the complex character, Rebus.
Richard Rankin is set to step into the limelight as the main character in the upcoming “Rebus” TV series. The entire six-episode season will be available on Viaplay starting November 7, and we’re eagerly counting down the days!
In a fresh adaptation, Rankin assumes the role of a character who has aged but retained many of his original traits. He’s a war veteran turned police officer, yet he’s not your typical by-the-book detective and often struggles to adhere to the rules. His challenge is amplified when his brother finds himself in legal trouble.
Additionally, he faces the challenge of being a dedicated father. Since his spouse remarried, Rebus observes his daughter growing closer to her new stepfather. Should he allow them to maintain their harmonious family life, or should he strive to reclaim what he desires?
Rebus cast includes Amy Manson, Stuart Bowman, and Brian Ferguson
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to hop into the world of “Six Cities” alongside the stellar cast of my favorite detective, John Rebus. Here’s a peek at who else graces our screens with their presence throughout the series:
Initially, it was Rebus’s brother, Michael, who is now assuming Brian Ferguson’s position. Unlike some others, Michael, a veteran soldier, did not transition directly into police work after his military service. Instead, he’s working to support his family, which has unfortunately put him in conflict with the law.
Amy Manson assumes the character of Rhona Moncrieffe, who was once married to Rebus. After remarrying a wealthy partner, she maintains a peaceful relationship with her ex-spouse. However, Rebus’s behavior complicates their attempts at co-parenting.
Mia McKenzie portrays Sammy Rebus, a character yearning for father-daughter bonding time with her father, yet occasionally finds herself apprehensive around him. Will she seek solace and guidance from her affluent stepfather as a surrogate father figure, or will she make efforts to foster a closer relationship with her biological dad?
In this new turn of events, Stuart Bowman assumes the character of Ger Cafferty, an individual deeply intertwined with the narrative of John Rebus since its inception. Known for his ruthless nature, Cafferty is not one to take kindly to those who challenge him.
In this role, Sean Buchanan portrays George Blantyre, a character previously partnered with Rebus, now confined to a wheelchair. It’s true that the character actress Michelle Duncan plays Rebus’s love interest, who happens to be his wife in this drama.
Additionally, we meet Detective Constable Siobhan Clarke, Rebus’s latest partner, portrayed by Lucie Shorthouse. She’s a rising star in her profession, and interestingly, she is secretly involved with Malcolm Fox, played by Thoren Ferguson. Malcolm holds a position within the department that ensures police force standards are maintained, and his relationship with Rebus is strained to say the least.
Other cast members to look out for are:
- Noof Ousellam as Darryl Christie
- Nick Rhys as Lockie Moncrieffe
- Neshla Caplan as Chrissie Rebus
- Aston McAuley as Shaun Strang
- Caroline Lee-Johnson as Gill Temper
Rebus is coming to Viaplay on Thursday, Nov. 7
