As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of both Outlander and Richard Rankin, I’ve been eagerly waiting for his new venture, Rebus. The anticipation was palpable, especially after the uncertainty surrounding its release due to Viaplay’s closure outside the Nordic countries. But alas, the wait is finally over!
We eagerly anticipate the new ventures of the Outlander cast members, including Richard Rankin who scored the lead role in Rebus as far back as March 2023. American viewers have been on tenterhooks to find out when this series will debut.
Was there a doubt about whether Rebus would still be broadcasted, since Viaplay decided to halt operations beyond the Nordic regions; could it be that the series wouldn’t air on the streaming platform anymore?
It seemed as though it was time for a change of residence. However, in May 2024, it made its debut in the UK, leaving US fans in anticipation. But now, we’ve got the premiere date, and it will still air on Viaplay.
Rebus lands a November premiere date on Viaplay
On Thursdays, 7th November, Viaplay is set to debut the highly anticipated series, Rebus. The entire six-episode series can be enjoyed at once, so viewers can dive right in without delay.
The show is adapted from Ian Rankin’s novels and takes place in contemporary Edinburgh. Detective John Rebus, having been demoted, finds himself at a mental juncture. He struggles to grasp the modern world, which seems dominated by technology.
Beyond this, he’s not exactly an admirable individual. He’s embroiled in a harmful relationship with the wife of his ex-police partner, who is now disabled. His daughter’s life has been taken over by his ex-wife’s new spouse, effectively replacing him. He grapples with whether there is any place left for him in this world. Does the law he once vowed to protect still hold significance?
Additionally, we have his former military comrade, who unfortunately becomes entangled in a violent feud between gangs. In an effort to support his dependents, this brother resorts to stealing drugs from a narcotics dealer. Now, Rebus finds himself in a moral dilemma: whether he should safeguard his brother or uphold the law’s justice as it is traditionally defined.
This is certainly one for those who want complex characters that you’re not always going to like.
Rebus airs on Viaplay on Thursday, Nov. 7.
