Rana Daggubati, Venkatesh Daggubati and other family members booked in criminal case over illegal demolition of hotel; REPORTS

Rana Daggubati and his uncle Venkatesh, along with other members of the Daggubati clan, have found themselves under scrutiny following the registration of a criminal investigation by Hyderabad police. The origins of this matter can be traced back to last year, when accusations were made that the family illegally demolished a building.

For those unfamiliar, it’s been alleged that Venkatesh Daggubati and other family members took down the Deccan Kitchen Hotel, a location found within Film Nagar of Hyderabad.

According to various accounts and records, it appears that the Daggubati family previously owned this particular piece of land. However, they have rented it out to an individual named Nanda Kumar. In November 2022, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) decided to tear down a portion of this property, as well as additional structures built by Kumar that were deemed unauthorized.

After July 2023, the Nampally Court requested an explanation from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) regarding this action and instructed them to preserve the current situation. However, in January 2024, the Daggubati family pressured Nanda Kumar to demolish the entire property, thereby disregarding the stay order.

Now, Kumar claimed in his declaration that he experienced a financial loss of approximately 200 million Indian Rupees following the destruction of the hotel. Consequently, the High Court mandated an investigation into this issue, while the Hyderabad police initiated legal action against the Daggubati family.

In addition to Rana and Venkatesh, the case also involves Suresh Rana, father of the Baahubali actor, and his brother Daggubati Abhiram. They have been charged under sections 448, 452, 458, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
