Ram Charan on contemplating asking director Shankar to make direct Telugu film: ‘He should have done a film with my dad…’

This upcoming masterpiece, titled “Game Changer,” featuring the charismatic Ram Charan and the radiant Kiara Advani, is primed to shake up the big screens this coming Sankranti! With its highly anticipated release on January 10, 2025, our dynamic duo graced a recent event in Mumbai. Intriguingly, it was shared that my idol, Ram Charan himself, had once pondered over the possibility of collaborating with director Shankar for a Telugu film!

During our chat, the actor shared, “You recall Shankar directed the remake of 3 Idiots in the South as Nanban? At the premiere when it was released in Telugu, I had the honor of being the chief guest. As I sat there with Shankar, I found myself wondering if I could ask him to direct a Telugu film directly.

In the realm of Telugu cinema, I’ve shared the screen with some of the industry’s most prominent figures, including my esteemed father, Chiranjeevi. Yet, throughout my career, I’ve found myself working alongside others just as often. Reflecting on my journey, I can honestly say that I haven’t had the courage to stand out and make a name for myself independently from my lineage or contemporaries. This realization has been both humbling and enlightening, pushing me to grow and strive for greatness in my own right.

As I continue to share my experiences, let me tell you about the last leg of the RRR film shoot in Hyderabad. During those closing days, producer Dil Raju reached out to me over the phone and even paid a visit on set. He shared an exciting piece of news: director Shankar wanted to have a discussion with me regarding a potential project.

Astounded by Dil Raju’s statement, Ram Charan expressed, “I couldn’t believe it! I thought I’d catch up with you later… as if Shankar would ever approach you for a film. But it turned out to be true, and I promptly contacted Raju. It was a moment I had long dreamed of.

Expressing that many people have been familiar with director Shankar’s movies throughout their lives, Ram Charan echoed the sentiments of director SS Rajamouli by referring to Shankar as the embodiment of commercial cinema.

Charan went on to praise director Shankar as the “pioneer of pan-Indian cinema,” expressing his gratitude by saying, “I feel incredibly fortunate. I can’t imagine how my father would react, but I am truly blessed; he could have made a movie with my dad.

In a few short days, the highly anticipated film “Game Changer” will hit movie theaters near you. This gripping political action thriller has Ram Charan taking center stage as an IAS officer, determined to challenge and combat corruption within the political establishment.

Leading the film is RC, with a talented cast including Kiara Advani, SJ Suryah, Anjali, Samuthirakani, and several others in pivotal positions.
