On Twitter, Karthik Subbaraj posted a message containing the precise words spoken by Thalaivar following his viewing of Retro. In addition, the filmmaker conveyed his personal sentiments about garnering such esteemed recognition from the renowned actor.
He wrote, “The leader admired ‘Retro’ and adored it… Straight from his own mouth… A fantastic job by everyone! Suriya’s performance was exceptional. The last 40 minutes were brilliant! The humor was hilarious! God bless you! I’m off now… Love to Thalaivar!

Previously, filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj worked with Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on the movie “Petta” released in 2019. For quite some time, he’s been eager to present a retro style to Rajinikanth through his films.
In a chat with Behindwoods, Karthik disclosed that he’d previously shared the teaser, trailer, and some sneak peeks of the Suriya-led project with Rajinikanth. He expressed his excitement to present the full movie to him once Rajinikanth wraps up filming for Jailer 2.
Regarding Retro, the movie’s ticket sales have been relatively stable lately. The earnings have climbed up to around 370 million rupees at the Tamil Nadu box office. It’s anticipated that sales will rise even more as the movie’s time in theaters goes on.
Regarding Suriya, this movie holds significant importance for him due to the elevated anticipation from fans after his last film, Kanguva, fell short of expectations. Following Retro, Suriya prepares to embark on his next collaboration with director RJ Balaji in their upcoming project.
Retro is expected to release on Netflix for its OTT premiere after completing its theatrical run.
