On March 16, 2018, the action-packed film, featuring Ajay Devgn in the main role, premiered in cinemas. Due to its crime thriller‘s impressive performance, it was later adapted into Telugu as Mr Bachchan, with Ravi Teja playing the lead character in the remake.
If you haven’t seen either movie, let me briefly summarize each for you and highlight their unique differences. This way, you can appreciate the distinctness between the two films.
What is Ajay Devgn starrer Raid’s story?
The narrative in Raid centers around Amay Patnaik, a transferee IRS officer from India, accompanied by his wife Malini, who finds themselves stationed in Lucknow. On a particularly eventful day, Amay receives a secretive tip suggesting the existence of illicit funds hidden by Rameshwar Singh.
Due to Singh’s powerful position and connections, he had successfully avoided income tax inspections for a prolonged period. However, Amay and his team eventually decided to carry out the raid only after meticulous preparations.
In spite of resistance from Rameshwar Singh, Amay presses ahead with his search, examining every hidden corner in his house. An annoyed Rameshwar turns to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for aid, but Patnaik remains resolute, pointing out that he falls under the authority of the Central government.
Despite trying his best, Singh couldn’t convince the Indian Prime Minister to halt the raid. Remaining composed and strategic, Amay stated that he would cease the operation solely upon receipt of an official written order. Concerned about a potential scandal with the media, the PM stood firm on his decision.
In a desperate move, Rameshwar Singh resorts to threatening Malini’s life, enraging Amay. However, Amay manages to regain his composure. With the team preparing for their final confrontation, Singh is ultimately subdued and taken into custody with assistance from the Special Police Force.
How does Mr Bachchan differ?
In contrast to the original film’s subdued atmosphere, the remake featuring Amitabh Bachchan and led by Ravi Teja adopts a more mainstream approach to the narrative.
Shifting the emphasis towards actions, we find our main character, Anand (better known as Mr. Bachchan), is a resolute Income Tax Officer who isn’t afraid to confront anyone. Due to his bold demeanor, he faces suspension, leading him to return to his humble origins where he encounters Jikki and falls in love.
In simpler terms, the initial part of the Telugu film tells a story about Mr. Bachchan attempting to win over a girl, whom he later develops a romantic relationship with.
In the second part, the main action unfolds at Mutyam Jaggayya’s residence. Unlike Harish Shankar’s usual style, this film portrays the character in a more cheerful and humorous light, deviating from Amay Patnaik’s composed and strategic persona.
In their actions, Rameshwar Singh and Mutyam Jaggayya are quite alike. Consequently, Mr. Bachchan’s story concludes in a predictable manner, with one individual stepping up to heroically resolve the situation.
