In the last match of their Europa League group stage, Tottenham Hotspur had a thrilling game and emerged victorious 3-0 against IF Elfsborg, coached by Ange Postecoglu. However, this success came at a price for Spurs, as they lost defender Radu Dragusin due to an injury during the game. But what specifically caused the Romanian defender to exit the match?
Here’s everything you need to know regarding the 22-year-old defensive stalwart’s latest ailment.
What happened to Radu Dragusin?
In their last matchup against Elfsborg (Swedish team), Radu Dragusin sustained a knee injury.
Mickey van de Ven made a long-awaited comeback to Tottenham’s defense in the match, having been sidelined due to fitness problems. However, Postecoglu opted for caution and swapped him out with Dragusin immediately after halftime. The young defender Dragusin played for 20 minutes before colliding with opposing striker Jalal Abdullai, resulting in an injury as he landed awkwardly on his knee. Consequently, Dragusin was taken off and replaced by 20-year-old Dane Scarlett, who later scored the first goal for his team.
According to reports from Metro, regarding Radu Dragusin’s injury, Postecoglu expressed his regret, stating, “Unfortunately, Radu has sustained an injury to his knee. I don’t have any more details at the moment, but it appeared serious as he was leaving the field, so we can only wait and see. It’s certainly disappointing.
In spite of the unfavorable turn of events involving his central defender, Postecoglu appeared quite pleased with the display put forth by his young squad members. He even went so far as to say, “Tonight was a Spurs-made performance. It’s fantastic for our club. I’m certain that some academy coaches will go to bed tonight with great anticipation.
Due to a knee problem, Radu Dragusin has joined the growing number of injured players on Tottenham Hotspur’s roster. At present, the team is without the contributions of defenders Djed Spence, Cristian Romero, and Destiny Udogie. Additionally, Guglielmo Vicario (first-choice goalkeeper), Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, and James Maddison are all currently sidelined due to fitness issues.
