Rachel Zegler’s Snow White Dominates on Streaming After Box Office Flop

Despite a lackluster box office performance when Disney’s Snow White starring Rachel Zegler premiered in U.S. theaters on March 21, 2025, it garnered significant popularity once it was made available on Disney+. Initially met with criticism from both critics and viewers, this live-action adaptation of the classic tale has since gained widespread acclaim.

After Disney+ release, Snow White is already a streaming hit

On June 11, 2025, Snow White made its debut on Disney+ and swiftly climbed to popularity. Currently, it leads the pack among the platform’s movies, with Lilo & Stitch (2002) in a close second place and Captain America: Brave New World (2025), released within the MCU, taking third place.

Following its underwhelming earnings at the cinema, the live-action remake of Walt Disney’s 1937 animated classic has garnered a 39% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 259 reviews. Despite this, it managed to make approximately $205 million worldwide, failing to meet its estimated production cost, which ranges between $240-270 million.

Making this film was marked by numerous disputes. Critics took issue with the use of motion-capture technology to portray the Seven Dwarfs, sparking debate. Additionally, both lead actresses, Zegler and Gal Gadot (cast as the Evil Queen), were embroiled in controversies over their perceived political stances. The movie garnered a large number of negative reviews ahead of its release, which likely affected its box office earnings. Yet, it appears that since its streaming premiere, there has been renewed interest in the film.

As a gamer sharing some exciting news, I’m thrilled to tell you that Marc Webb is directing Snow White, scripted by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train). Apart from Zegler and Gadot, the stellar cast includes Andrew Burnap as Jonathan and Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman. Not only that, but Jeremy Swift lends his voice to Doc, Martin Klebba becomes Grumpy, George Salazar steps up as Happy, and many more talented voices fill the movie. Can’t wait to see it!
