As a long-time admirer of Luca Guadagnino’s captivating storytelling and visually stunning films, I am absolutely thrilled to see the trailer for his latest masterpiece, “Queer.” Having been fortunate enough to immerse myself in Guadagnino’s cinematic universe since his 2015 release, A Bigger Splash, I can confidently say that each new project only solidifies his status as a modern-day auteur.
A trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s Queer has been released.
The upcoming romance movie titled “Queer,” directed by Guadagnino and starring Daniel Craig, will be released in selected U.S. cinemas this coming September. This film had a successful debut at the Venice International Film Festival last September, receiving favorable criticism.

What do we know about Queer?
The story unfolds in 1940s Mexico City and follows William Lee, who has escaped from a drug-related raid in New Orleans. In the vibrant streets of Mexico City, Lee gets lost in the city’s nightclubs and develops an affection for Eugene Allerton, a former American Navy serviceman struggling with drug use.
Joining forces with Craig from Knives Out are the talented cast members Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Henry Zaga, Drew Droege, Ariel Schulman, and David Lowery in this star-studded lineup.
The film is an adaptation of a novel titled similarly, published in 1985, authored by William S. Burroughs. Justin Kuritzkes, who has previously written the script for the movie “Challengers” released in 2024, was responsible for this screenplay. Luca Guadagnino directed “Challengers,” featuring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist as its stars.
Guadagnino’s collection of films features A Bigger Splash (2015), Call Me by Your Name (2017), Suspiria (2018), and Bones and All (2022) among others. Currently, he is working on a new project called After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny.
At the Venice Film Festival, Guadagnino expressed that he had been eager to collaborate with Craig for quite some time. Yet, he wasn’t certain if Craig would show interest in the project when they first proposed the role to him.
“A gentleman that was in the [casting] room was really the one that was not pragmatic and said to me, ‘What about Daniel Craig?’ And I said, ‘I thought about him, but he’s never going to say yes.’ And he said to me, ‘Let’s ask.’ And he said yes,” he said via The Hollywood Reporter. “And the yes was a definitive yes. He’s one of the greatest actors. It’s a privilege to work with someone like him.”
Queer will be released in select theaters in the United States on November 27, 2024, from A24.
