As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless hours spent exploring virtual worlds and slaying digital foes, I must say that September 2024 is shaping up to be a bittersweet month for me. On one hand, the addition of new games like The Casting of Frank Stone, Epic Mickey Rebrushed, and Astro Bot to the PS Plus lineup has my heart racing with anticipation. But on the other, the departure of some true gems from the service has left me feeling a tad melancholic.
In September 2024, it’s sad to say that 12 games will be leaving the PlayStation subscription service. Among them is a popular horror game that has recently seen a significant surge in players by over 102%. Additionally, one of PlayStation’s top console exclusives is also set to depart from PS Plus next month.
Looking forward to many exciting events in September! The long-awaited launch of The Casting of Frank Stone and Epic Mickey Rebrushed is on the horizon, marking the debut of the first game from the undervalued Epic Mickey series on PlayStation platforms for the first time. Additionally, we’re eagerly awaiting the release date for Astro Bot, and whispers indicate that a PlayStation Showcase might be in store as well.
All the upcoming PS Plus releases are thrilling, yet September 2024 stands out as a significant month with even more anticipation. Noteworthy titles will be added to both Essential and Extra tiers, however, there’s some disappointing news: some exceptional gaming experiences are set to depart as well.
PS Plus games leaving in September 2024
In September 2024, two games will be available for immediate play on PlayStation Plus as part of their lineup, and Sony has also announced that twelve specific games will no longer be available in the PS Plus Extra catalog.
- Alien Isolation
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Midnight Suns
- Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
- Nier Replicant
- Spiritfarer
- Cloudpunk
- Star Ocean The Divine Force
- Star Ocean The Intergrity and Faithlessness
- Star Ocean The Last Hope
- Star Ocean Till The End of Time
- Star Ocean First Departure R
Every item on the list is scheduled to depart (leave) on September 17th. Glancing at the list, it’s a disheartening month for Star Ocean series enthusiasts, but Horizon Forbidden West, Alien Isolation, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and Nier Replicant seem to be the most significant departures (leavings).
Beginning with the game Alien: Isolation, it stands as a true horror masterpiece that continues to impress even after nearly a decade. Interestingly, its quality has earned it a spot among the top horror games ever created. Coincidentally, the new Alien: Romulus film has premiered in cinemas, and according to Truetrophies, this event has led to a 122.03% surge in players for Alien: Isolation on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
It’s equally disheartening to bid farewell to Horizon Forbidden West. The follow-up to Zero Dawn is visually stunning and ranks among PlayStation’s top exclusive games. Although we look forward to LEGO Horizon Adventures later this year, the absence of Forbidden West right now is bittersweet.
1. Marvel’s Midnight Suns, developed by the creators of XCOM, offers a terrific yet underestimated turn-based RPG experience. Similarly, Nier Replicant is a remarkable remake of an outstanding game which laid the groundwork for the beloved Nier Automata.
In other PlayStation news, more Xbox exclusives are set to come to PS5.
