What happened to Project Runway star Arthur Folasa?

39-year-old fashion designer Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, who had previously competed on Project Runway, tragically lost his life during a protest in Salt Lake City, Utah. The incident occurred over the weekend during the “No Kings” demonstration. It was confirmed by authorities that Ah Loo was not the intended target but was unfortunately caught in the crossfire of the violent situation, as he was just a bystander.

As I was immersed in the thrill of the gaming event, an unexpected incident unfolded when someone, supposedly Arturo Gamboa, took out what seemed like an AR-15 replica from his bag and started advancing towards the crowd. The heroic volunteers, who were there to keep the peace, stepped up and demanded he surrender the weapon. Instead, he is said to have raised it and began sprinting towards the protesters.

In a reaction, one of the peace enforcers discharged three rounds, accidentally hitting Ah Loo, who tragically passed away in the hospital later on. Gamboa was apprehended and indicted for murder, while the peacekeepers implicated in the incident were also arrested for further interrogation.

Ah Loo emerged as a notable figure following his participation in Season 17 of Project Runway in 2019, which showcased his unique design aesthetics. In the year 2018, he was chosen to take part in the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange. His creations were then exhibited at Buckingham Palace.

More recently, Ah Loo has attracted notice by creating looks for actress Auliʻi Cravalho at the 2024 Moana Hawaiian premiere. Previously, he also designed outfits for the cast of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Beyond his fashion endeavors, Ah Loo is a co-founder of Creative Pacific, a nonprofit dedicated to nurturing talent among Pacific Islander artists.
