Norwegian esports player Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad is under scrutiny for allegedly misusing over ten thousand dollars’ worth of in-game items, specifically skins, from a trader called “erlsan”. The dispute appears to have stemmed from loans given during the Paris Major tournament. It’s alleged that jkaem used the borrowed skins for gambling without returning them to erlsan. However, jkaem reportedly promised to upgrade the skins as a form of compensation. As of March 15, 2025, according to erlsan, only $1,000 out of the total $11,000 debt has been repaid.
Trader Goes Public After Long Wait
Growing increasingly impatient due to continuous delays and what seemed like false justifications, erlsan turned to social media platform X to air his complaints publicly.
In March 2023, I loaned some valuable skins worth around 11k USD to @jkaem for use during the Paris Major. Unfortunately, I later discovered that he had wagered my skins in games. Despite a year of promises, explanations, and deception, I have no other recourse but to reveal this situation publicly. [Part 1 of 5]

The public disclosure prompted jkaem to issue a statement, acknowledging his misconduct:
Hello,
I acknowledge my errors without any justification. I have made significant blunders and these instances are not limited to one. I will make good on all the debts and obligations that I owe to each of you. In truth, I was foolish in my actions. I take full accountability for my actions and own up to my mistakes. (1/4)

The event involving jkaem has led to wider conversations across the esports and virtual item trading circles. Particularly, Danish skin dealer zipeL has voiced his concerns, revealing that there are additional victims and suggesting that jkaem requires specialized assistance to overcome his gambling problem.
As a passionate observer, I’m often entangled in what I call the intricate web of predatory lending cycles. Remarkably, it’s quite astonishing how something so pervasive could remain hidden for so long. This isn’t an isolated incident; it’s a recurring pattern that demands attention.

This scenario underscores potential dangers linked to the unofficial act of ‘skin borrowing’ within the esports world, prompting discussions about the obligations of competitive gamers and the sites facilitating their activities.
