Is Your Privacy Just a Myth? DeepSeek Sparks a Hilarious Tech Showdown! 😂
In a most unfortunate turn of events, the Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek finds itself in the crosshairs of a veritable storm of criticism, primarily concerning its rather cavalier approach to privacy and security. The United States, along with its loyal sidekick Australia, has taken a keen interest in this tech debacle. Enter stage left, Pro-XRP lawyer Jeremy Hogan, who, in a fit of digital indignation, took to X to air his grievances regarding the company’s rather dubious privacy practices.
Upon a thorough perusal of DeepSeek AI’s privacy policy, Hogan emerged with a revelation that would make even the most jaded of privacy advocates weep: users, it seems, have no privacy whatsoever. He quipped, with a flourish of sarcasm:
“The DeepSeek privacy policy is: You don’t have any privacy. None. It can collect almost any and all information from you and share it with almost anyone. But don’t worry, all your info is stored safely somewhere in China – where privacy is paramount!”
Ripple’s own CTO, David Schwartz, responded with a rather cheeky image, as if to say, “Oh, come now, it’s not that bad!” He pointed out that while DeepSeek AI’s privacy policy is indeed concerning, it pales in comparison to the terms that once governed the now-defunct beta.webmaster.com. A true testament to the evolution of tech absurdity!

Meanwhile, the US Navy, in a move that can only be described as a parental warning, has advised its personnel against the use of DeepSeek, citing security and ethical concerns. In a rather stern email, they explicitly prohibited the use of this AI tool. Following this revelation, shares of AI chipmakers Nvidia and Broadcom plummeted by 17% on Monday, effectively erasing a staggering $800 billion in market value. One might say the Nasdaq took a rather unfortunate tumble, down by 3.1% as a result.
Trump and Industry Leaders Discuss DeepSeek’s Competitive Implications
Despite the cacophony of criticism, DeepSeek has found an unexpected ally in none other than President Donald Trump, who has dubbed the latest iteration a “wake-up call” for US companies. He urged them to rally and focus on winning the competition. David Sacks, Trump’s AI and ‘crypto czar,’ chimed in, asserting that DeepSeek R1 is a testament to the cutthroat nature of the AI field. He wholeheartedly supported Trump’s decision to rescind a Biden-era rule that restricted US AI companies, pointing out, with a wink, that China has no such restrictions.
DeepSeek R1 shows that the AI race will be very competitive and that President Trump was right to rescind the Biden EO, which hamstrung American AI companies without asking whether China would do the same. (Obviously not.) I’m confident in the U.S. but we can’t be complacent.

In a rather amusing twist, a spokesperson from Nvidia praised DeepSeek, calling it an “excellent AI advancement” and a prime example of test-time scaling. One can only imagine the corporate cheerleading that ensued. Meanwhile, Marina Zhang, an associate professor at the University of Technology Sydney, informed the BBC that in China, DeepSeek’s progress is celebrated as a shining beacon of the country’s burgeoning tech prowess. The company’s success is heralded as a sign of China’s new era of innovation, led by a sprightly younger generation of business leaders.
“The company’s success is seen as a validation of China’s Innovation 2.0, a new era of homegrown technological leadership driven by a younger generation of entrepreneurs,” Zhang said.
