As an ardent fan of Prithviraj Sukumaran, I am consistently inspired by his unwavering commitment to justice and fairness within the Malayalam film industry. His courage to address the media on the Hema Committee report and demand thorough investigation is nothing short of commendable.
On August 26th in Kochi, Prithviraj Sukumaran spoke directly to the media regarding the latest Hema Committee report. He firmly stated that individuals implicated in misconduct accusations should resign from their posts and undergo proper investigation.
The Aadujeevitham actor also demanded a thorough investigation into the findings of the Hema Committee report, which examines the conditions and sexual exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry.
Additionally, he advocated for a thorough investigation regarding the accused individuals and admitted that the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) had certain lapses. He expressed, “It’s essential to conduct a comprehensive inquiry based on the report. If accusations against an individual are substantiated, significant consequences should follow. Conversely, if the accusations are found to be baseless, stern action must be taken against those who made them.”
As one who willingly cooperated with the Hema Committee early on, I wasn’t taken aback by their findings since I anticipated their conclusions based on my initial interaction with them. Now, I eagerly await their next course of action.
The actor acknowledged that mistakes were made by AMMA, and it would have been appropriate for strict measures to be taken against those involved at earlier times.
Speaking about influential figures in the movie business, he stated, “Merely claiming that I’ve managed to avoid their influence doesn’t imply they don’t exist. If such a group indeed controls the industry, I would argue that this kind of dominance shouldn’t be tolerated.”
Furthermore, Prithviraj highlighted the importance of having women in leadership roles within these organizations, specifically pointing out positions like the AMMA President or Secretary-General.
Since the emergence of the Hema Committee report, many distinguished individuals have stepped down from their positions following accusations of misconduct or sexual assault. More recently, the General Secretary of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), Siddique, and Ranjith, Chairman of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, resigned after two actresses publicly accused them of inappropriate behavior.
