Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown hits 2M players six months after its team was disbanded

Typically, achieving a significant landmark like two million players is cause for celebration. Indeed, it’s not something trivial. However, the fact that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has reached this figure is a bittersweet moment. Unfortunately, the team behind it can’t fully celebrate this accomplishment as they were disbanded back in October.

On April 30th, Ubisoft shared the latest player achievement for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which spans across PC and console platforms, including its Steam release from August. This update follows hot on the heels of a mobile-optimized version that was launched two weeks prior.

Despite the joy of this occasion, it’s impossible not to recall that Ubisoft disbanded the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team at Ubisoft Montpellier in October. Although Senior Producer Abdelhak Elguess attempted to present a positive outlook, the team’s disbandment was followed by reports indicating that the game did not meet sales targets and would not receive a sequel. Even though The Lost Crown team was dismantled, several of its members continue with Ubisoft, now working on different projects within the company.

Despite having a massive player base, it’s surprising that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown might have gone unnoticed by many. Yet, our selection of it as the Shacknews Most Overlooked Game of 2024 wasn’t made lightly. It seems that more and more people are discovering this hidden gem, which could be a promising sign for the longevity of the Prince of Persia series, extending even past the upcoming Sands of Time remake due next year.
