Predator: Badlands Trailer Review: In Dan Trachtenberg We Trust

The initial trailer for “Predator: Badlands” has been unveiled, so it’s now time to analyze it and discuss our predictions for the upcoming sequel. The forthcoming film, set to hit American cinemas in November, features Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as its leading stars.

Predator: Badlands trailer review

Let’s state the obvious, first: Predator: Badlands looks like it’s going to be a big swing.

This film seems to be taking a significant turn since it’s unlike any Predator movie we’ve encountered before. Based on the previews and remarks from director Dan Trachtenberg, it looks like one of the Yautja (the alien species known as Predators) might even be the main character. Characters played by Fanning could potentially aid this new protagonist throughout the story.

Indeed, another unexpected move, yet not entirely unforeseen since the Yautja have been portrayed as complex characters, even if antiheroes, in the Alien vs. Predator series. However, I can’t fault anyone for wanting to forget these movies, given that the first one is somewhat acceptable, while the second one falls far short of being decent.

Moving forward, the upcoming film titled Predator: Badlands marks the seventh addition to the Predator franchise, following Predator: Killer of Killers in June. It’s time for a fresh approach. As a fan of the original Predator movie, I have fond memories of Predator 2 and appreciate its moments. However, I must admit that I was more captivated by Predators than most viewers, as it released during my teenage years when I was deeply engrossed in this series. On the other hand, The Predator directed by Shane Black did not resonate with me. Now, we’re at a stage where bold moves are necessary.

Previously, Trachtenberg demonstrated his ability to create something unique. The film “Prey” offered a fresh perspective on the franchise, demonstrating how a change of environment can rejuvenate this series. It appears he has a strategic vision for the Predator series, and considering how impressive “Prey” was, I’m confident in his abilities. I don’t know where this movie is headed or what twists it holds, but I’m eager to embark on the adventure it promises.
