Power Rangers Disney+ Show in the Works From Percy Jackson Showrunners

Hasbro and 20th Century Television have teamed up to produce a live-action series of Power Rangers for Disney+, inspired by the popular ’90s show The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Since its launch in 1993, the franchise has generated numerous sequels over the past three decades, such as Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.

Who is involved in the Power Rangers Disney+ show?

Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the masterminds behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians, are in talks to create, manage, and produce the live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+. This project aims to revamp the franchise for a new wave of fans while maintaining the charm that captivated those who are already familiar with the Power Rangers universe.

Before Disney+’s upcoming adaptation, the live-action movie version of Power Rangers, produced by Lionsgate and Saban Film in 2017, had already been released. The film, which starred Naomi Scott, Becky G, Ludi Lin, RJ Cyler, and Dacre Montgomery, was inspired by the original show’s pilot episode albeit loosely. Earlier, Jonathan Entwistle (known for ‘It’s the End of the F—ing World’) had been involved in developing a fresh Power Rangers film and TV series for Netflix and eOne. However, it was recently confirmed that these projects are no longer progressing as planned.

After its debut, this series exploded in popularity and led to an enormous variety of toys, action figures, and other merchandise, not to mention numerous spin-offs and films. Toho Studio even produced unique fight scenes specifically for the American adaptation, which fans affectionately refer to as Zyu2 footage.

The show initially aired for three complete seasons and a grand total of 145 episodes, concluding its run in the year 1995.
