Porsche and Michelin Unveil Wet-Weather Track Tire for 911 GT3 RS

As a passionate gamer who’s always chasing the thrill of the racetrack, here’s some exciting news: Porsche and Michelin have teamed up to create a new high-performance tire, the Michelin Pilot Sport S 5, tailored for the 911 GT3 RS owners. This baby is designed to stretch out the track-day season, even in tricky weather conditions. So, buckle up and get ready to test your skills on wet tracks and low temperatures without worrying about the weather holding you back!

Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Vehicles at Porsche, underscored the focus on customer needs, stating, “We’re catering to our enthusiasts seeking high-performance driving experiences, who wish to spend extended periods on the track during the spring and autumn months.

The fresh tire now becomes part of Porsche’s collection that has been certified by Michelin, fitting perfectly with the high-performance Pilot Sport Cup 2 R. Labeled with Porsche’s unique ‘N’ mark, the Pilot Sport S 5 brings a new category emphasizing enhanced wet-weather traction without compromising its usability for daily road conditions.

As a Porsche Brand Ambassador, Jörg Bergmeister played an essential part in perfecting the tire that boasts enhanced resistance to aquaplaning. This tire showcases four deep central grooves and a high silica compound, which effectively pushes out water as it maintains a steady grip on the road. The tire functions optimally at temperatures between 5 and 15 degrees Celsius, demonstrating superiority over conventional Ultra High Performance (UHP) tires in wet conditions by more than 10 seconds per lap during Michelin’s testing.

Specifically for the 911 GT3 RS model, the high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tires are provided by Porsche’s performance partner, Manthey Racing, at the Nürburgring circuit.
