Porsche 911 GT3 Sets Nürburgring Record for Manual Cars

The latest model of Porsche 911 GT3 has been crowned the quickest manufacturing car equipped with a manual gearbox on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, completing the track in 6 minutes, 56.294 seconds. At the helm was Porsche’s representative, Jörg Bergmeister, who surpassed the old record by over 9.5 seconds, even when going up against a more potent competitor.

Equipped with the Weissach Package and a traditional six-speed manual gearbox, the 911 GT3 surpassed its previous version, which had Porsche’s faster PDK transmission, by more than 3.6 seconds. Enhancements to the suspension and a shorter gear ratio contributed to sharper turns and swifter acceleration from the same 510 horsepower engine.

The race was held over a 20.832-kilometer track under perfect spring weather and equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tires. Bergmeister attributed the enhanced chassis, derived from the GT3 RS model, to the car’s improved agility over bumps and curbs.
