According to recent updates, Pope Francis has been admitted to the hospital due to a severe lung infection which has begun to affect his kidney function. Reports indicate that he has already spent more than ten days receiving treatment in the hospital.
What happened to Pope Francis?
Concerns are arising amongst Pope Francis’ followers due to his health troubles. At 88 years old, this leader of the Catholic Church is battling a lung infection and the initial stages of kidney failure. According to recent updates, he is currently recovering comfortably following a stay in critical care.
According to AP, Pope Francis isn’t using artificial food or liquids for nourishment because he’s feeling well and still chooses to eat on his own. Although he’s in intensive care, the Pope hasn’t exhibited any worrying signs of respiratory issues since February 22nd.
Earlier, Francis fell ill with double pneumonia in his lungs and needed a large amount of extra oxygen. His health situation is considered critical because of his age and existing lung disease, as doctors have explained.
As I sit down to game today, I find myself reflecting on the news about Pope Francis. It turns out he’s been admitted to Gemelli Hospital due to some tough lung issues. Seems like he’s battling not just one but two types of infections – bacterial and fungal ones – right in his respiratory tract. Unfortunately, these infections have led to pneumonia in both lungs. Here’s wishing him a swift recovery and good health. Let’s keep him in our thoughts during this challenging time.
On Sunday, February 23, Pope Francis participated in a church service at the hospital, despite his serious illness. The Vatican City provided an update on the Pope’s health status in an official announcement.
The Pope is currently awake and alert. This morning, from his apartment on the tenth floor, he attended a Holy Mass alongside those caring for him during his hospital stay.
The Pope’s recent blood tests indicate a condition called thrombocytopenia, which means he has a lower-than-normal number of blood platelets. As a result, he has been administered two units of concentrated red blood cells for transfusions. These have had positive effects on his health, and his hemoglobin levels have now increased, as noted by the Vatican City.
Previously, Pope Francis made a few trips to Gemelli Hospital. In 2024, he experienced symptoms similar to the flu. Interestingly, a year prior to that, he suffered from bronchitis. Following his treatment with antibiotics for bronchitis, he bounced back swiftly. Upon leaving the hospital, he playfully commented to reporters, “I’m still kicking!
