In 2025, Tamil cinema legends Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth are gearing up to deliver two electrifying action thrillers titled Thug Life and Coolie. Their fans can hardly contain their excitement as these two veterans, who began their journeys in the industry around the same period, have left everyone intrigued by their upcoming movies.
Kamal Haasan’s gangster action thriller Thug Life
Initially, there’s Kamal Haasan, gearing up for his upcoming movie titled Thug Life, helmed by Mani Ratnam. This pulse-pounding action-thriller is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 5, 2025.
In addition to Kamal Haasan as the main character, this movie features key roles for Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, and several others.
In this movie, KH teams up with Mani Ratnam for a second time since their previous project, Nayakan. The film is being made under the production house, Raaj Kamal Films International. Notably, the acclaimed composer AR Rahman is responsible for creating the soundtrack of this action-packed production.
In simple terms, the film “Thug Life” received a UA (Unrestricted for Adults) rating from the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). The movie runs for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. A small number of changes were recommended by the certification board, primarily muting certain profanities.
Rajinikanth’s raw action thriller Coolie
Meanwhile, another captivating venture called “Coolie” featuring Rajinikanth as the main character is also underway. This project represents the initial team-up of Thalaivar with Lokesh Kanagaraj, and it’s recently garnering a lot of interest.
The movie is set for a theater premiere on August 14, 2025, but it will face competition from the release of another major film, War 2.
Apart from Rajinikanth, the film features actors such as Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Upendra Rao, Shoubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and several others.
