As a long-time enthusiast of both Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering, I find myself appalled by the recent news from Hong Kong. The notion that a place dedicated to fostering camaraderie among collectors could be used as a front for illegal activities is truly disheartening.
The Hong Kong police raided a Pokémon Card Shop and found a huge amount of drugs in the back.
A Wild Drug Dealer Appeared!
As someone who grew up playing Pokémon cards and later became a dedicated fan of the franchise, I was utterly shocked to learn that one of the stores selling TCG (Trading Card Game) Pokémon merchandise had been turned into a drug den. Earlier this week, The South China Morning Post reported on this disturbing incident where police raided the store and found a staggering amount of crystal meth on the owner. Initially, they discovered 5kg of the drug on him, but when they took him back to his shop for further investigation, another 16kg was uncovered. This revelation has left me feeling both disheartened and appalled. It’s a stark reminder that even the things we love can sometimes be tainted by the darker aspects of humanity. As a community, it’s essential to remain vigilant and support efforts aimed at eradicating drug trafficking, no matter where it may hide.
The police reported that the seized narcotics, totaling approximately 21 kilograms, are believed to be valued at about HK$10 million, equivalent to around $1.3 million USD.
The report additionally stated that those Pokémon enthusiasts who purchased and played were completely uninvolved, as they held no connection whatsoever to the illicit drug operations occurring discreetly in the background.
In a Magic: The Gathering shop, the distinctive scent could potentially provide sufficient grounds for authorities to obtain a search warrant.
