Pokémon Legends Z-A release date confirmed alongside “new form of battling”

The developers, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company, have officially unveiled the gameplay for Pokémon Legends Z-A, the eagerly anticipated new installment in the renowned monster-catching series. Following an additional year of refinement, this Nintendo Switch title has now been fully uncovered in a fresh trailer along with its launch date.

Pokémon Legends Z-A release date

In the Pokemon Presents live stream, Game Freak officially announced that Pokémon Legends: Z-A would launch towards the end of 2025. Following the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2, players can enjoy this game on both versions of the latest Nintendo handheld devices.

Pokémon Legends Z-A gameplay

In the vibrant metropolis of Lumiose City, as seen in Pokemon X and Y, players embark on an adventure filled with parkour-style exploration, encounters with freely roaming creatures, and real-time street battles that require quick movement to dodge damage. After selecting between three starting Pokemon – Totodile, Chikorita, or Tepig – you’ll traverse a city undergoing extensive renovations.

In addition to the revival of Legendary Pokémon-esque gameplay, the upcoming title Pokemon Legends Z-A will reintroduce Mega Evolution, a feature that has been absent from the series since Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. This feature enables your creature to undergo a temporary super-powered evolution, showcasing remarkable abilities.

For the initial time in the Pokémon series, the combat system has undergone a significant transformation. Now, each move comes with distinct attributes related to reach and power, which implies that your Pokémon must be close enough to another creature to inflict damage. Additionally, players need to pay attention to avoid being hit by a monster’s attacks.

In the city, various wild zones have been established among the cityscape, enabling you to capture wild Pokemon using techniques reminiscent of those found in Legends: Arceus. You’ll be able to sneak up on these creatures stealthily, catching them unaware.

Moreover, the latest Pokemon game seems centered on Zygarde, a legendary character initially presented in X and Y, yet only appearing in-game during Sun and Moon. There’s speculation that players might uncover fragments of Zygarde scattered throughout Lumiose City, but this hasn’t been officially verified.
