Pokémon Legends: Z-A Gets A Release Date And A Preorder Treat For Fans

Pokemon enthusiasts, jot down this date: Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set to be released globally on October 16, 2025. This game was formally announced on May 28 and will be available for purchase on both the current Nintendo Switch console as well as the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Dual Release For Switch And Switch 2

In addition to the regular Switch release, the Pokémon Legends: Z-A edition tailored for the Nintendo Switch 2 promises enhanced visuals and superior performance.

If you’ve got the Switch edition already, you can elevate to the Upgrade Pack; whether it’s digital or physical doesn’t matter. The new Switch 2 Edition can still be experienced on a standard Switch, albeit without the advanced features.

Welcome Back To Lumiose City

Let’s refresh what we know about the game!

In the revamped Lumiose City, the storyline of Z-A unfolds, driven by Quasartico Inc.’s visionary urban renewal project. This ambitious plan envisions a harmonious coexistence zone for both humans and Pokémon. The city now boasts abundant greenery, modern tech hubs, and even wild areas where players can engage in exciting battles and capture Pokémon at their leisure.

Instead of traditional mainline games where battles were turn-based, the trainers and their Pokémon now have the freedom to move around during combat, allowing them to give commands instantaneously.

As a gamer, I’ll be dealing with moves that have different reach, impact zones, and activation durations, which means I’ve got to think about positioning, timing, and fast decision-making. It’s all about knowing when to dodge, swap Pokémon, or strike. This system is a significant leap forward for the series, and could even be a testing ground for future mainline games.

Mega Evolution Returns

After a hiatus in recent titles, Mega Evolutions make a triumphant return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

In the game being set in Kalos, known as the origin of Mega Evolution, and with Zygarde as a key character, there’s been much talk about potential new Mega transformations for Xerneas, Yveltal, and perhaps even Zygarde.

Preorders And Bonus Figurine

Preorders for Nintendo eShop begin on June 5th. If you can hold off until June 11th, the My Nintendo Store has a special incentive: an exclusive starter Pokémon figurine featuring Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig as a bonus. More collectibles will be available in other bundles such as the Mega Evolution and Champion’s Choice editions.
