Pokemon GO Shadow Raids and Max Battles can soon be played remotely

A key factor contributing to Pokemon GO’s continuous appeal lies in the ability to capture all Pokemons even from a distance. Sometimes, meeting up with friends might not be feasible due to various reasons, making the opportunity to participate from afar particularly convenient. Until now, Pokemon GO Raids could be played remotely, but Shadow Raids and Max Battles have not. However, starting this month, Niantic has decided to make Shadow Raids and Max Battles playable from a distance as well.

Starting on Tuesday, May 13th, Pokemon GO Shadow Raids will become available remotely during the upcoming Crown Clash: Taken Over event. This is a perfect opportunity to partake in remote raiding, as Shadow Dialga will make its first appearance during this event. However, you can only encounter Shadow Dialga through Special Research. Shadow Raids, on the other hand, will introduce Shadow versions of Magnemite, Cyndaquil, Murkrow, Spoink, Lapras, Piloswine, and Gurdurr.

Since the advent of Dynamax Pokemon approximately a year ago, Max Battles have significantly contributed to the overall experience within Pokemon GO. Beginning on May 19th (Monday), it is now possible to participate in these intense battles from a distance. This update arrives perfectly for the Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day, during which players will encounter a colossal Gigantamax version of Machamp’s final evolution in Max Battle locations worldwide.

Similar to other distant battles, participating in Shadow Raids or Max Battles remotely will necessitate a Remote Raid Pass, which can be obtained using in-game Gold or real currency. The withdrawal of remote gaming options for Pokemon GO received justified criticism following Niantic’s decision to reverse COVID-19 modifications that facilitated distant play among players. These remote features have been particularly beneficial and inclusive for individuals with disabilities who might not always be able to venture outdoors.

More information on the upcoming raid changes can be found on the Pokemon GO website.
