Reebok, a popular British footwear brand, and PLEASURES have introduced a unique sneaker and clothing line celebrating the impactful music of the UK post-punk group Joy Division. This special edition collection showcases the distinctive artwork and song titles from their 1979 album, “Unknown Pleasures.” The team has redesigned the Club C 85 model and created a range of graphic basics to complement this stylish ensemble.
The Club C 85 shoes feature an upper blend of black suede and woven fabric. Notably, their toe box displays the pulsar waveform image from the cover of Unknown Pleasures, a famous illustration associated with Joy Division. Instead of the standard Reebok logo, a subtle black-on-black Joy Division wordmark is placed where the logo window usually resides. On the heels, pull tabs are embroidered with the album title in white thread.
During the years 2000 to 2019, young people on digital platforms such as Tumblr showed strong nostalgia for the Joy Division era. The longing for their melancholic style sparked a renewed interest in the band, and especially merchandise from their album “Unknown Pleasures.” In 2019, PLEASURES collaborated with Warner Music UK to mark the 40th anniversary of the album’s release, launching a special collection that included hoodies, jackets, and t-shirts displaying the iconic cover art.
The latest assortment offers additional merchandise, adopting a university-inspired outfit design, consisting of black and white t-shirts with subtle, faded graphics. Interpreting the band’s name creatively, the humorous promotional campaign exhibits the phrase “PLEASURES JOY DIV.” prominently, with the Reebok logo in the center. On the reverse side of these shirts, song titles such as “Transmission” and “Disorder” are displayed in distressed typography.
