PlayStation’s Concord decimated by Squirrel with a Gun

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but be amused by the unfolding drama between Concord and Squirrel with a Gun. Having played games from the Atari era to the modern AAA titles, I’ve seen the industry evolve, and it’s intriguing to witness such stark contrasts.

Following an 8-year development period, the multiplayer game Concord has been released on both PlayStation and PC platforms. Surprisingly, though Concord was just recently launched, it’s currently being outperformed in player numbers by a new indie title called Squirrel with a Gun.

Concord smashed by Squirrel with a Gun

As a gamer, it’s been tough lately finding others to play with since the number of active players on Concord games across all platforms seems to be pretty low. To make things worse, there are less than 70 people currently playing the new live-service game on Steam at this very moment I’m writing this.

Gaming enthusiasts often remark that the number of PC players for Concord is incredibly small, almost non-existent. To put it humorously, even the popular indie game Squirrel with a Gun boasted over eight times the number of simultaneous players when last checked.

Currently, I’m immersed in the world of Squirrel with a Gun, and it’s been quite an experience! We’ve got over 568 gamers joining the fun at any given moment, and just yesterday, we hit a whopping 2,000 concurrent players! In comparison, Concord on PC hasn’t seen more than 1,000 players all-time since its launch.

An indie delight

Of course, this isn’t meant to trash talk Squirrel with a Gun, but it is a fun comparison to make. PlayStation’s Concord has been developed over almost a decade and cost millions to create something players simply don’t want.

As a gamer myself, I’ve found myself deeply engrossed in this quirky little gem called Squirrel with a Gun. What started as a casual project has now turned into an internet sensation, thanks to the buzz it generated on social media. The development process has only amplified its appeal, making it even more popular among gamers like me. Plus, unlike many other games out there, this one doesn’t follow the trend of trying to appease shareholders or conform to industry norms; instead, it stands tall and unique, a breath of fresh air in the gaming world.

Although Squirrel with a Gun hasn’t achieved the colossal indie success of Undertale or Balatro, it’s undeniably popular among players. In contrast, Concord is struggling and receiving criticism, but may see a revival when Sony eventually adds it to PlayStation Plus.

If you’re looking for an enjoyable independent game to back, consider checking out “Squirrel with a Gun,” currently playable on PC. This game will also be making its way onto Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles on October 15, 2024.
