PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary themes are leaving at the end of January

In December 2024, Sony’s PlayStation commemorated its 30th anniversary by offering players free PS5 themes reminiscent of the auditory and atmospheric experiences from the PS1, PS2, and PS3. These themes were fun and nostalgic, demonstrating that the PS5 could run similar themes as the PS4 did previously. Sadly, these themes have a limited duration, and their time is nearly over, set to expire at the end of January. However, Sony hinted that they might return these themes in the future.

This week, PlayStation announced on their official social media platforms that they will be taking down the 30th Anniversary PS5 themes from January 31, 2025. For now, these themes will no longer be accessible or usable. However, the positive response received has encouraged PlayStation to potentially reintroduce them at a later stage, and they are also looking into other means of commemorating their history. As of now, they have no plans for more theme releases.

Hey Gamers! Just wanted to share some exciting news about our classic PlayStation themes – for PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Due to all of your amazing feedback, we’ve been working hard to reintroduce these limited-time themes that you love so much. However, they’ll be taking a short break tomorrow, but don’t worry, they’re not gone for good! We’ll bring them back soon, so stay tuned! 🕹️🎮💪

Leaving the 30th Anniversary PlayStation themes is disappointing, but Sony made it clear from the start that they were only available for a limited time. It’s possible this is because of the themes being tied to the 30th Anniversary branding, and hopefully, they will return soon. These themes allowed us to replicate the sounds and atmosphere of older PlayStation systems, adding some much-needed variety to our home screens that has been absent since PS4.

In other words, as these topics are leaving, we can only hope that Sony doesn’t hold onto them for too long. Keep an eye out for future announcements, as these themes will be temporarily unavailable starting January 31.
