As a parent who has spent countless hours trying to balance my love for gaming with the need to provide my children with a wholesome environment, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of relief and excitement at the direction PlayStation is taking. Growing up, I was that kid who had to sneak in games like God of War and The Last of Us, always aware of the disapproving glances from my parents. But now, with the success of Astro Bot and the commitment from PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst to focus on family-friendly games, I can finally introduce my kids to the world of gaming without having to worry about the content they’re consuming.
PlayStations are recognized for numerous aspects, however, they’re generally not renowned for promoting a family-oriented environment. A significant number of their most prominent intellectual properties (IPs) incorporate varying degrees of violence, such as God of War and The Last of Us.
With the great success of Astro Bot, the company has set a new path for themselves.
More Family-Friendly Games In The Future
In a segment from the most-recent PlayStation podcast, PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst spoke with Astro Bot’s creative director Nicolas Doucet.
They talk about the impact of Astro Bot on their company, and how they will continue going forward.
Hulst stated:
I think it’s massively important that PlayStation Studios develops games in various genres, and the family market, I think, is really important for us to focus on.
During its debut, Astro Bot was widely recognized as the top-rated game of the year in 2024. Needless to say, this recognition didn’t escape the attention of the company.
Hulst went on by saying:
Astro is very, very important to PlayStation. Obviously, we had the pre-install on the PlayStation 5, that millions and millions and millions of people have embraced and loved, and I think that’s become a little bit of a platform to launch this new game now.
As a passionate Lego fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about our next family-friendly journey with “Lego Horizon Adventures.” This game is set to release on PC, PS4, PS5, and the Nintendo Switch, marking a new chapter for us all. Unlike previous games that might have had more intense elements, “Lego Horizon Adventures” promises to be a fun, safe, and engaging experience for everyone in the family. This move is an exhilarating step forward for our beloved Lego company, expanding our horizons even further!
