For enthusiasts of PlayStation, there are several exciting games on the horizon. Death Stranding 2 is set to debut in June, followed by Ghost of Yotei in October. Additionally, other significant titles like Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac and Intergalactic by Naughty Dog are under development. Initially, fans expected to catch a glimpse of some of these games, along with others, during May’s PlayStation Showcase or State of Play. However, it now seems unlikely, although there’s a chance that a summer event could still be scheduled.
PlayStation Showcase or State of Play unlikely for May
Many enthusiasts of the PlayStation platform are eagerly anticipating a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play event scheduled for May. Historically, such events from PlayStation tend to occur during this month; for instance, a State of Play took place on May 30th in 2024, a PlayStation Showcase happened on May 24th in 2023, and another State of Play was held on May 27th in 2022. In addition, there was a State of Play event on May 27th in 2021, as well as separate State of Plays dedicated to Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 that took place in May 2020.
It appears there won’t be a PlayStation event scheduled for May 2025, according to reliable sources like NateTheHate who has consistently stated on X and more recently on ResetEra that he has no information about an upcoming PlayStation Showcase or State of Play.
I have not.

Although it seems that May might not be the month for an event, there’s still hope for a summer gathering or one shortly after. Previously, we shared news about speculations of a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play happening in the summer, based on reports from well-known insider Jeff Grubb. During Game Mess Decides 385 in February, Grubb mentioned that internally at Sony, they are debating between a full showcase and another State of Play for this summer. They are also considering a full showcase as an option.
In simpler terms, the conversation between Grubb and others was about summer months (June, July, and August), so May was not part of their discussion. On the other hand, leaker John Harker agreed with a user on ResetEra who speculated that Sony might release something in September.
In the upcoming months, we might see Sony hosting an event either in June or August. Historically, they haven’t held an event in July, but they did host a State of Play on June 2nd, 2022 showcasing games like Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Additionally, they previously hosted a State of Play on August 6th, 2020.
Fall season begins in September, and it’s likely that Sony’s next State of Play event might take place just beyond summer’s end. Notably, Sony last held such an event on September 24th in the year 2024. So, there’s a chance they might host another one a year later.
Regardless of whether a State of Play event occurs in May, summer, September, or not at all, PlayStation enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate Summer Game Fest on June 6th. NateTheHate hinted that at least one of three significant games will be included in the presentation, and it’s expected that there will be numerous other thrilling game previews and live demos, much like Geoff Keighley’s traditional events.
As a devoted gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but appreciate the decision Sony made in not pressuring Naughty Dog to continue churning out Uncharted titles. Kudos to them for understanding and respecting the creative vision of their talented teams!
