As a seasoned amusement park enthusiast and a long-time fan of the Planet Coaster series, I must say that the latest offering from Frontier Developments, Planet Coaster 2, has me absolutely thrilled! The prospect of diving into a world where I can create my dream water park is simply exhilarating.
The Frontier Developments team is gearing up to launch the follow-up to Planet Coaster, which they’ve been eagerly working on – that’s right, we’re talking about Planet Coaster 2! This new version will include all the excitement of the original game, plus an exciting addition: water rides. It can be a bit daunting, but don’t worry, Frontier Developments has a Career Mode designed to help players get started. Shacknews recently got a sneak peek at it.
In The Planet Coaster 2, Career Mode tells a storyline with occasional objectives. Here, you’ll meet Oswald Thompson and his company, Coaster Coast, where your mission is to establish a thriving new park. However, you’ll encounter competition from Kenta Suzuki, another builder who has acquired part of the land intended for your theme park. This means that Suzuki can set certain restrictions on what you can construct within his area. These limitations will serve as a guide in understanding how to develop specific sections of the theme park.
In this Career Mode, players are tasked with constructing a specific kind of water slide – one complete with a full flume leading straight into the pool’s center. While it’s possible to place a flume-pool combination among the available structures, it takes more than just plopping down a water slide anywhere for a park to thrive. Players should remember that guests need easy access to the pool, which means planning a walkway from the park entrance to the swimming area.
Initially, I ran into an issue where Planet Coaster 2 was overly eager to inform me about problems it detected. Frequent notifications would appear, alerting me that certain areas were congested, staff members weren’t working, or guests couldn’t access parts of the ride. Unfortunately, the game was good at pointing out the problematic zones but didn’t provide many suggestions for solutions. To be fair, I only played a small portion of the game, but I have high hopes that the complete version will offer more user-friendly guidance.
A significant aspect that stands out in Planet Coaster 2 is the multitude of possibilities for attractions, decorations, staff, and various other features. Each option appears to be tweakable in some manner, with even more sophisticated elements like park shows being customizable through a user-friendly interface reminiscent of video editing software, enabling players to control when characters and special effects are triggered. For some, this abundance of choices might seem overwhelming, especially since many items require power and water resources for optimal functioning, necessitating regular maintenance to keep them in top shape. However, for veterans of the genre, this is a dream come true, complete with the ability to share custom-made creations via Frontier Workshop.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that on Thursday, Frontier Developments officially revealed the launch date for Planet Coaster 2. They’ve also unveiled an exciting pre-order perk – a Bonus Ride Collection! For those eagerly anticipating a rich, detailed park-building experience, this long-awaited sequel might just be your ticket. Mark your calendars, fellow enthusiasts, because Planet Coaster 2 will hit PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on Wednesday, November 6!
“The sneak peek you see was from an initial computer version that I accessed remotely using Parsec. Keep in mind, the finished product may still undergo changes.
