As a fan who’s grown up grooving to the beats of Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “Piece by Piece.” This movie promises an extraordinary journey into the creative genius of Pharrell Williams, and as someone who’s spent countless hours stacking LEGO bricks (and occasionally my life) in a futile attempt to recreate his masterpieces, I can’t wait to see this tale unfold.
Focus Features and Universal Pictures have shared a fresh behind-the-scenes snippet, offering a glimpse into the process of crafting the legendary “Drop It Like It’s Hot” tune by Snoop Dogg and Pharrell.
In a recent snippet from the film, there’s an interview featuring Snoop, in his LEGO likeness, discussing the making of the song. As told by the esteemed musician himself, he was striving for a chart-topping single, and Pharrell is credited with producing the beat for the track swiftly. Notably, this tune turned out to be a massive success, granting Snoop Dogg his initial number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

What is Piece By Piece about?
Piece by Piece is an extraordinary cinematic journey that showcases the incredible creativity of Pharrell Williams, one LEGO brick at a time, according to the official summary. Instead of creating a conventional biographical film, Pharrell aimed to tell his story in a unique way, sparking the imagination of viewers. Born from Pharrell’s distinctive perspective, Piece by Piece transcends categories and defies expectations, immersing audiences in a LEGO universe where anything is imaginable.
The film ‘Piece By Piece’ is the creation of Morgan Neville, a renowned documentary maker known for his critically-acclaimed works such as ’20 Feet from Stardom’ (2013), ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor?’ and ‘They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead’ (both 2018), ‘Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain’ (2021), and ‘STEVE! (Martin)’ (2024).
I teamed up with Williams, Caitrin Rogers, Mimi Valdés, and Shani Saxon to create this flick, and Jill Wilfert and Keith Malone were our executive producers, guiding us every step of the way.
Piece by Piece is set to release in theaters on October 11, 2024.
