Pete Davidson Explains Why He Is Removing His Tattoos

Pete Davidson is recognized for various aspects, but his numerous tattoos stand out prominently. Yet, this popular comedian and actor has shared the reasons behind his decision to get rid of most of those inkings.

Why is Pete Davidson getting rid of his tattoos?

In a chat with Variety, I shared why I decided to get rid of all my ink. For me, those tattoos are a reminder of a period in my life when I was dealing with some heavy emotions, and I used them as a way to hide someone I wasn’t too fond of. Now, I’m moving forward, leaving that chapter behind.

Davidson admitted that his decision not to show off his body stemmed from neglecting himself in the past. He used to struggle with drug addiction and felt miserable, often feeling unattractive and wanting to hide under layers. While he doesn’t view tattoos as inherently negative, his own tattoos serve as a reminder of that sad, uncertain person he once was when he looks at them.

The actor humorously commented that, when he gazes at himself in the mirror these days, he doesn’t wish for it to bring back memories of his struggles with drug addiction or the tattoo depicting “SpongeBob smoking a joint” on his back. Instead, he feels his tattoos should have significance, not just a reminder that he was under the influence while watching “Game of Thrones.

Davidson mentions that the tattoos on his arms and neck have significantly faded, but it will take another 10 years to completely remove them through a painful process. In simpler terms, he’s saying that most of his arm and neck tattoos are barely visible now, but it will still be decades before they are fully erased, and the removal process isn’t enjoyable.

Davidson explained that due to the six-week healing period after each tattoo removal session, he has to fit them into his schedule around work. This means that removing one tattoo takes about 10 to 12 sessions, equating to 60 weeks of his life. He described the process as quite painful and difficult, likening it to repeatedly burning your arm on a grill and needing careful maintenance and healing time afterward. He admitted honestly that it’s not pleasant at all.
