Pedro Pascal, in an open chat with Vanity Fair, disclosed that there was a time when he pondered leaving acting behind altogether. However, his family members consistently motivated him to continue pursuing his acting career.

Pedro Pascal says he was about to quit acting

Pedro Pascal candidly shared in an interview with Vanity Fair that he contemplated leaving acting altogether before reaching the level of success he currently enjoys. During his twenties and thirties, he found himself pondering alternative career choices.

In his thirties, as Pascal understood it, he should have already established a career. Yet, by the age of 29, if he hadn’t secured one, then it was all but over, according to him. Facing an uncertain future, he started contemplating enrolling in nursing school or teaching drama. However, despite his decision to abandon acting, his family and friends continued to hold faith in his abilities as a performer.

Javiera Balmaceda, his sister, reminisced about their relentless efforts to encourage Pedro’s passion, stating, “Whenever Pedro mentioned plans for nursing school or becoming a theater teacher, it was always met with, ‘No, no, no, no! You’re too talented for that!'” She continued, “Pedro had dreamt of being an actor since he was four years old. The one thing we never wanted Pedro to do was give up on his dreams.

In a playful manner, Pascal suggested that if he had pursued nursing instead, it might not have turned out so smoothly. He elaborated by saying, “I’d be a choosy nurse, just like I was as a waiter. I’d develop affection for some patients and harbor dislike towards others. And unfortunately, the patient whom I disliked most!

Previously struggling with self-doubt, Pascal has risen to fame in the film and television industry, appearing in The Last of Us, The Fantastic Four, and Game of Thrones. As he reflects on his journey, the actor acknowledged that reaching the age of 50 unexpectedly brought a newfound vulnerability. In his own words, “It’s strange for a man of 50 to receive all this attention! This feels like whispers from the dark corners, don’t you understand?

Most recently, Pascal starred in The Materialists alongside Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans.
